Bring Learning to Life

At Liberty Woodland School, we want more children, wherever they go to school, to experience learning that is active, purposeful and connected to the world around them.

Our teacher CPD days are part of our commitment to sharing the power of outdoor, experiential and project-based learning. We invite educators into the everyday life of our school to see this approach in action, explore the thinking behind it and consider how it could be adapted within their own settings.

This is not about recreating Liberty Woodland School elsewhere. It is about helping teachers feel inspired, supported and practically equipped to make greater use of outdoor spaces, real-world experiences and meaningful projects in their own schools.

Next CPD Day

Monday 10 May 2027, 9am to 1pm

An Immersive Experience of LWS

Liberty Woodland School is a small, independent school set within 4.5 acres of nature in South West London.

Learning regularly moves beyond the classroom and is brought to life through carefully designed projects, practical experiences, play, collaboration and contact with the natural world.

Our CPD days offer an in-depth experience of this approach. Rather than simply hearing about our educational model, you will spend time within the school, observe learning in action and talk with the teachers and leaders who make it happen.

With a deliberately small group, there is plenty of time to engage deeply, ask questions and explore how these ideas could translate meaningfully into your own classroom or school.

What You Will Explore

During the morning, you will:

  • See outdoor, experiential and project-based learning in practice
  • Explore how curriculum objectives can be taught through meaningful projects
  • Consider how outdoor environments can support learning across different subjects and ages
  • Examine the role of play, independence, collaboration and appropriate risk
  • Discuss how projects can be built around real problems, genuine purposes and authentic audiences
  • Hear honestly about the planning, routines and culture that make this approach possible
  • Begin identifying realistic changes you could take back to your own classroom or school

There will also be time for questions, discussion and reflection.

Who Should Attend?

Our CPD days are suitable for teachers, school leaders, curriculum leads and phase leaders from primary settings.

You do not need access to woodland or extensive school grounds. We will help you consider how the principles of outdoor, experiential and project-based learning can be applied within the spaces, resources and curriculum available to your school.

Whether you are beginning to explore this approach or looking to develop existing practice, the day is designed to leave you feeling inspired and ready to take practical next steps.

Making This Learning Accessible

We believe the benefits of this approach should reach children across all types of schools.

The cost is £100 per person for teachers working in independent schools.

Places are free for teachers working in state-funded schools.

When requesting a free state-school place, please include a short explanation of:

  • What you hope to learn from the day
  • One area of your teaching or school practice that you would particularly like to develop
  • How you hope to use or share the learning within your school

This is not intended to be a formal or competitive application. It simply helps us understand how the limited places could have the greatest possible impact beyond the day itself.Professional Connection

We hope the conversations and professional relationships developed during the day will help participants continue sharing ideas, experiences and encouragement long after their visit.
